Eyepiece Focusing & Magnification Adjustment

The eyepiece can be focused so that the reticle appears sharp and black to your eyes. Adjusting the focus is quick and easy to do. Just follow this procedure:

1 Point the scope at the sky or bright object (e. g. plain wall) and take a quick glance through the scope. If the reticle appears sharp and black, no further adjustment is necessary.

2 If not, use quick glances through the scope while rotating the focus ring until the reticle is sharp and clear.

For distances less than 100 m we recommend the use of lower magnification to avoid problems in simultaneous focusing image and reticle. To magnify, turn power ring to the left. To lower magnifications, turn to the right. To set to medium magnification, turn knob to middle position.

Never use the rifle scope to look at the sun or other bright light sources! This will damage your eyes!

Windage/Elevation Adjustment

The windage and elevation knobs are designed for precise adjustment of the reticle, protected by caps. The dials are calibrated so that 1 click = 1 cm/100 m. The windage knob is located on the right side of the tube and the elevation knob on top. Turn clockwise marked “UP” to move pointof-impact upwards, or counterclockwise marked “DN” to move downwards. Windage adjustment operates alike. Adjustments are indicated by detents and audible clicks. On all models, the windage and elevation knobs can be reset to “0” once your gun is sighted-in. To rotate the dial and reset to “0”, insert the hexagonal key that was included with your scope into the dial slot, as indicated in the picture. Loosen the set screw, rotate the dial to “0”, and then retighten.

Reticle Illumination

STEINER Nighthunter Xtreme rifle scopes feature an illuminated red dot in the middle of the reticle. Switch on illumination by moving switch forward and off by moving backwards. The illumination turns off automatically, once you put the rifle away in an upright position or lay it aside. As soon as you move the rifle into shooting position, the motion sensor puts the illumination on again with the memorized brightness level. To save battery life, the illumination shuts off completely after three hours. To reilluminate, move switch to off-position and move back into on-position. If the illuminated point is flashing, low battery charge is indicated.

The intensity of the illumination is controlled by the rotary illumination switch located on the left side of the scope. Move upwards and hold to intensify dot until the desired brightness is achieved, or downwards to dim. For fine adjustment, tip very briefly into the direction desired until final setting desired. The reticle is powered by a 3-volt lithium cell battery CR2032. To install a new battery, simply unscrew the battery cap on the left side, press on one side of the battery to lift and remove, and install the new battery flat side (+) up. It is advisable to remove the battery for long term storage (over a month). The cap containing the spare battery can be mounted on both top and right side turret.

Parallax/Focus Adjustment

All scopes are tuned parallax free to 100 m. The 3-15×56 model includes a parallax adjustment from 50 m to infinity. Parallax is the apparent movement of the reticle in relation to the target when the eye is not directly in line behind the center of the scope. Images from different distances focus in front of or behind the scope’s reticle. Parallax is more noticeable with higher magnification scopes. To use the parallax adjustment, rotate the knob on the left side of the turret housing until the numeral corresponding to the known target distance lines up with the reference mark. If the distance is unknown, rotate the adjustment knob until the target image is sharply focused. When the scope is set parallax free for the distance you are viewing, you should be able to move your eye side-to-side or up and down without seeing the reticle move appreciably in relation to the target.

Mounting the Scope

The rifle scope requires 30 mm rings. Rail models work with standard rail bases for “Z” or Zeiss rails. The rail cover included can be cut to fill the remaining open space after mounting. STEINER recommends quality components and assignment of a qualified gunsmith to ensure secure mounting, correct eye relief, complete field of vision and maximum accuracy.

Care & Maintenance

Your Nighthunter Xtreme rifle scope is fully waterproof and fogproof through N2 Filling. Objective and ocular lenses are protected from stubborn environmental substances such as oil, acids and salt water by STEINER Nano-Protection®. This surface is extremely water-repellent and is easily cleaned. In the event that the lenses are subjected to dust, dirt or mud, follow these steps: Failure to remove grit before final cleaning is sure to damage lens coatings. Coarse dirt/debris must be removed from the lens surface. Position the scope so particles will fall away from the lens, and then use a soft brush to gently whisk away the debris, while blowing on the lens to dislodge the particles. For heavy dirt, like dried mud, use a spray of clean water or lens cleaning fluid to remove the dirt. For quick cleaning, please use the cleaning cloth integrated into the neoprene protective cover. Your STEINER rifle scope will provide years of reliable performance given reasonable care and treatment. All moving assemblies are permanently lubricated. Only occasional cleaning of the outside of the scope and the exterior lenses is required. Never disassemble your scope. Disassembly by anyone other than our factory will void the warranty. If you have any problems with your Steiner rifle scope, return it to your dealer to send it to the factory for repair.
