Moving the telescope from point A to point B in the sky with the use of a motor drive is specified as slewing.
Fast slewing speed is used for:
- finding a general area in the night sky or
- for slewing between two celestial objects that are very far apart.
To precisely center the chosen object into a finderscope, a slow slew speed is required. For finer centering in telescope’s eyepiece, an even slower rate is recommended.
To manually slew the telescope to specific celestial coordinates, hand control needs to be used. Slewing controls are very easy to use. After choosing the slewing speed, the user controls the movement with Up and Down, Left and Right direction buttons.
The object in the eyepiece moves in the direction in which the arrow on the button points to.
