Leica Binoculars Accessories | Optics Trade Debates

Hello and welcome to another episode of Optics Trade Debates. As we continue on our way through Leica sales catalogue, we thought it would be best to conclude the binoculars category by dedicating the last debate to Leica accessories that either come with or can be purchased separately from binoculars.

Leica made its first binoculars in 1907. Now, more than 110 years later, Leica is still a synonym for quality and innovation in the field of sports optics. Their creations were and remain a benchmark for other optics manufacturers up to this day.

Since it is only fair that quality binoculars are used in conjunction with quality accessories. Leica has come up with various extras over the years and uses two main accessory styles.

The first one relies on premium leather and upmarket upholstery like leather straps for carrying and cases. The brand offers various solutions, depending on the type of binoculars, with a premium high-quality feel and design. As far as case design is concerned, Leica has joined forces with many manufacturers like Swazi that make elegant products, primarily made of leather.

The second style is much more sport-oriented, with an added focus on practical wear. Here, the main material used is neoprene, with canvas and rubber taking a secondary role. Many colour options are on offer, including nature-inspired colours like grey, brown, army green, brown, and an occasional splash of bright orange.

With this dual concept, Leica appeals to a wide variety of their customers. They combine a world where somebody buys a Leica Ultravid pocket-sized binoculars with a glossy finish and is spoiled for choice between various leather accessories in many colour options. Leica’s customers appreciate premium quality-feel and classic design of these accessories.

On the other side of Leica’s target audience, there are customers who are primarily interested in function over form. For example, someone who purchases Leica Trinovid binoculars can have their pick from a plethora of adventure and sport-centred accessory items like tripod holders, neoprene carrying straps, ropes and harnesses, winged eyepieces for people (especially hunters) who use Leica binoculars in low light and many other.

These are all accessories for someone who spends plenty of time in raw nature and will use binoculars in adverse conditions, exposed to the elements. It’s really difficult to imagine a Leica user on a hike through the Amazonian jungle with binoculars stored inside a polished, fine-leather Leica Ever ready case around his neck. Leica Swazi binoculars case, on the other hand, might be a preferable option.

Leica lets the user style their binoculars based on the common manner of use. The company’s customers are able to buy the accessories for their stylish appearance and smooth texture. After all, in addition to their optical performance, Leica products also serve as much coveted lifestyle items.

Not to neglect their much more practical customers, Leica sells a whole array of accessories that can withstand rough use. Whether it be sports, hunting, hiking, bird watching or something else – Leica accessories can provide added protection and ease of use, even in the most difficult of circumstances. They are suitable for a more challenging application and that includes professional use.

Note that the adventure strap is a case by itself. This Leica strap comes with the purchase of Trinovid 8×42 and 10×42 models but can also be purchased individually. Check out our video on this Leica series of classic binoculars for more details on use. The adventure strap is a 2-in-1 accessory piece since it can be used as either a strap or a practical case.
