Welcome to Optics Trade debates. In each episode, we talk about a different topic and try to answer the most common questions we receive about it. Today, we are going to talk about the differences between the Pulsar Digital NV Attachment Forward F135 and F155.
The only physical difference is the front part with the lens, everything else is the same. The F135 has a 35 mm lens and the F155 has a 55 mm lens. The F155 is also 2 cm longer because of the bigger lens.
The F135 is 135 mm long and the F155 is 155 mm long. The smaller model weighs around 500 g and the bigger one around 700 g.
The devices have the same sensor and the same display. The different size of the lenses results in a difference in the field of view. And because of the different field of view, there is a difference in the resolution.
The F135 has a wider field of view, which is a big advantage in many hunting situations. Because of that, there aren’t as many details visible as with the F155. The lower resolution limits the maximum magnification of the scope it’s used on to about 6x. The higher resolution of the F155 is usable on scopes that have up to 8x magnification.
A lot of people falsely assume that the F155 is better in all situations because it’s bigger and more expensive. It is optically better than the F135 but that doesn’t translate into usability. It’s better to use the F155 on open plains and on a longer range. But for use in the forest and at close range, the F135 is a much better choice.
The F135 costs about 1000 € and the F155 about 1100 €.
