Power Sources for Pulsar Core | Optics Trade Debates

Welcome to Optics Trade debates. In each episode, we talk about a different topic and try to answer the most common questions we receive about it. Today, we are going to talk about the power sources for Pulsar Core devices.

The first and most basic option is two CR123A batteries. This option is also the most common one.

But there are several downsides to single-use batteries. The charge doesn’t last long and there isn’t an indicator that would inform the user of the level of the charge.

Because of these inconveniences, Pulsar also offers external power sources, which enable a much longer operating time. There are two options, the EPS3i, and the EPS5 external battery packs. The EPS3i has a power indicator and a smaller capacity than the EPS5.

The packs come with an adapter that has a socket. The adapter fits into the battery compartment. And to use the Core, the cable from the battery needs to be plugged into the adapter.

The EPS3i has a really short cable, while the EPS5 has a longer one. There is no place on the Core where the pack could be mounted. And that’s why most users choose the EPS5 because the cable is long enough that they can put the pack into their pocket/jacket or mount it on the rifle.

The usable time goes from 3-4 h if using the batteries up to more than 10 h if using the battery packs. Both battery packs have a long charge time, about 6 h for the EPS5 and about 4 h for the EPS3i.

The packs are quite affordable, the EPS3i costs around 90 € and the EPS5 about 120 €.
