Monoblock Mounts | Optics Trade Debates

Welcome to Optics Trade debates. In each episode, we talk about a different topic and try to answer the most common questions we receive about it. Today, we are going to talk about monoblock mounts.

Monoblock mounts are mounts that are made from one single block of material. This results in a very robust mount. These mounts are usually used for tactical situations. Most monoblock mounts are machined from aluminum.

The first advantage is that these mounts are very robust and reliable. They are usually not skeletonized and can withstand any kind of recoil.

Monoblock mounts have really wide rings and there is a lot of contact between the rings and the scope. The rings are at least two centimeters wide. This ensures less tension on the scope and a really reliable grip.

Most monoblock mounts have integrated recoil stoppers which are machined from the same block of metal.

The majority of monoblock mounts are made for the Picatinny rail. They have a really big clamping surface so that means that they are really reliable.

QD mounts (quick- detachable mounts) are rare in this segment. The majority of these mounts are fixed mounts and are attached with screws.

Most hunting mounts have one or two screws on the rings, while tactical monoblocks can have up to six screws.

Most monoblock mounts have integrated bubble levels. ERA-TAC monoblocks don’t have an integrated bubble level but it can be purchased as an accessory which is mounted on top and easier to see.

There is a huge array of accessories for tactical mounts.

Some cantilever mounts can be considered monoblock because they are made out of one piece of material. Cantilever mounts are designed to be used on AR platforms because they have both rings extended forward.
