FOREWORD

Dear Customer,
We wish you a great deal of fun and success with your
new Leica product. The Leica Pinmaster II Pro sends
out pulses of laser light, which are in the infrared
wavelength, harmless and invisible to the naked eye;
the built-in microprocessor calculates the object
distance from these reflected signals. The Leica
Pinmaster II Pro is equipped with a first target logic
specially developed for golf and a scanning mode. This
greatly simplifies measuring distances.
The Leica Pinmaster II Pro is equipped with superb
7x-magnification optics, which enable good targeting
even in difficult conditions. Thanks to a ballistics
system specially developed for golf (ACD – “Angle
Compensated Distance”) the Pinmaster II Pro will be
your perfect training tool to permanently improve your
game of golf.
In order that you can make full use of all the
possibilities offered by your Pinmaster, we recommend
that you first read these instructions.

DISPOSAL OF ELECTRICAL AND
ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT

(Applies within the EU, and for other
European countries with segregated waste
collection systems.)
This device contains electrical and/or electronic
components and must therefore not be disposed of in
general household waste! Instead, it should be
disposed of at a recycling collection point provided by
the local authority. This costs you nothing. If the device
contains standard or rechargeable batteries, these
must be removed first and also be disposed of in line
with relevant regulations.
Further information on the subject is available from
your local administration, your local waste collection
company, or in the store where you purchased this
device.

FITTING THE CARRYING CORD

Push the small loop of the carrying cord through the
eyelet 4 on the housing of the Leica Pinmaster II Pro.
Then, thread the end of the carrying strap through the
small loop and pull it tight so that the loop that is
formed is securely attached to the eyelet on the
housing.

INSERTING AND CHANGING THE BATTERY

The Leica Pinmaster II Pro is supplied with power by
one 3 Volt lithium cell (e.g. Duracell DL CR 2, Ucar CR
2, Varta CR 2, or other CR 2 types).
1. Open the cover 6 of the battery compartment 7
by turning it anticlockwise.
2. Insert the battery with the plus (+) contact facing
forwards (as indicated by the mark in the battery
compartment).
3. Close the cover again by turning in clockwise
direction.

Notes:

• Cold temperatures reduces the battery performance. At low temperatures, the Leica Pinmaster II
Pro should therefore be carried as close as possible
to your body and operated with a new battery.
• If the Leica Pinmaster II Pro is used for a prolonged
period, the battery should be removed.
• Batteries should be stored in a cool and dry place.

Attention:

• On no account should batteries be thrown into a
fire, heated, recharged, dismantled or broken apart.
• Old batteries must not be thrown into the normal
household refuse as they contain toxic, environmentally harmful substances. To ensure that they are
properly recycled, they should be returned to the
dealer or disposed of as special waste (at a
collection point).

BATTERY CHARGE STATE

If the battery is spent, every time the device is
switched on – by pressing the main button 2 – for 1
second bAtt appears instead of the target mark. After
bAtt appears for the first time, more than 100
measurements are still possible with increasingly
reduced range.
Irrespective of the display, you can carry out a
measurement at any time by pressing the main button
again.

USE WITH AND WITHOUT GLASSES

If you are not wearing glasses, leave the rubber eyecup
3 folded up (Figure A, as it comes). This position gives
the correct distance between the eye and the Leica
Pinmaster II Pro. When viewing with glasses, fold down
the eyecup (Figure B).

DIOPTER COMPENSATION

The diopter compensator allows you to adjust the
sharpness of the target mark to suit you best. Simply
target the Leica Pinmaster II Pro on some far away
object and turn the eyecup 3 until the target mark is as
sharp as possible. The target mark can be seen by
pressing the main button 2. The degree of compensation can be read off the “+” or “–” scale 3a on the
eyecup. Compensation within the range of ±3.5
diopters is possible.

SETTING THE DESIRED UNIT OF MEASURE

The Leica Pinmaster II Pro can be set to meters or
yards, the more commonly used unit in the USA.

Setting:
1. Hold the auxiliary button 1 depressed (≥3s).
• USEU appears (flasihing)
2. Press the main button 2 to select the desired unit
of measure.
US = for display in yards
EU = for display in meters

Note:
The current setting can always be seen from the display
– if metric values have been selected, a dot always
appears at the bottom right next to the target mark.
3. Save your setting by briefly pressing the auxiliary
button.
• The saved setting initially lights up permanently
for confirmation, then the display changes first
of all to menu item ACD and the goes out if no
further settings are have been made.

DISTANCE MEASUREMENT

To measure the distance to an object, it must be
perfectly targeted. To do this, activate the target mark
by pressing the main button 2 once. When the main
button is released, the target mark continues to be
displayed for approx. 4 seconds. If the button is kept
pressed down, the target mark remains lit. While the
target mark is lit, aim at the object and press the main
button a second time; the distance is then measured
and displayed. The target mark goes out briefly during
the measurement. A new measurement can be made
at any time, as long as the target mark is lit, by
pressing the main button once again. If the object is
less than 10m away, out of range, or does not provide
enough reflection, then – – – appears in the display.
When the display goes out, the Leica Pinmaster II Pro
switches off automatically.

SCAN MODE

The Leica Pinmaster II Pro can also be used for
measurements in continuous mode: If the main button
2 is held down the 2nd time it is pressed, the unit
switches to scan mode after approx. 0.5 seconds and
then performs measurements permanently. This is
indicated by alternating displays: A new measured
value is displayed every approx. 0.5 seconds.
Scan mode is particularly practical when measuring the
distance to flagpoles and other small objects.

Note:
The power consumption during scan mode is higher
than with individual measurements due to the
continuous measurement.

FIRST TARGET LOGIC

The Leica Pinmaster II Pro is equipped with first target
logic specially developed for golf, which greatly
simplifies the measurement of small targets such as
golf flag. If the unit records two distances in the area of
the target mark, the distance to the closer – smaller
– target is displayed A, and not that of the further,
larger object B. This first target logic also works in
conjunction with scan mode. In the example, when
going past the flagpole, the measured value changes
from 210m (bushes in the background) to 42m
(flagpole). If the measurement was successful, the
distance measurement display flashes at high
frequency. If there is no second target (flag in front of
the horizon/measurement in a bunker), the display
does not flash.

Tip for use:
Nevertheless, when taking measurements for golf flags
or similar small objects, you should always try to line
up the target mark so that no other objects are
recorded or so that these objects are at least situated
a good distance (minimum 15m) away from the first
target.

MEASURING RANGE AND ACCURACY

The measuring accuracy of the Leica Pinmaster II Pro is
up to ±1m. The maximum range is achieved with target
objects with high reflectivity and a visual range of
approx. 10km. The measuring range is influenced by
the following factors:

Leica Pinmaster II Pro

ANGLE COMPENSATED DISTANCE™

(ACD: equivalent horizontal range)

Tee shots at targets on higher or lower ground are
subject to changes in ballistic conditions. They
therefore require knowledge of the equivalent
horizontal distance.
The Leica Pinmaster II Pro calculates this ACD from the
linear measured distance and a compensation factor
that depends on the angle also measured.

Note:
ACD- values are only given between 15m and 400m.
Furthermore, only the actual linear distance measured
is indicated.

Important:
• Please note that particularly with large distances,
the influence of all ballistically relevant factors
increases significantly and can result in deviations.
The ballistic values displayed are therefore
expressly to be understood only as an aid!

CARE / CLEANING

Your Leica Pinmaster II Pro does not require any special
care. Any large dirt particles, such as sand, should be
removed with a soft brush or blown off. Fingerprints,
etc. on lenses and eyepieces can be pre-cleaned using
a damp cloth and then wiped off using a soft, clean
leather or lint-free cloth.

Important:
Do not apply excessive pressure when cleaning heavily
soiled lens surfaces. Although the coating is highly
abrasion-resistant, it can nevertheless be damaged by
sand or salt crystals.
The housing should only be cleaned using a damp
piece of leather. There is a risk of static charges if dry
cloths are used.
Alcohol and other chemical solutions must not be used
for cleaning the lens or the housing. In addition to the
designation by type, each Leica Pinmaster II Pro has an
individual serial number. Please note this number in
your documents as a safety measure.

Attention:
Do not open the unit under any circumstances!
