Hello and welcome to another episode of Optics Trade Debates. Lately, we have been discussing rangefinding binoculars that are manufactured by Leica.
Perhaps it would be best to first check out the other videos that we posted on the topic of Leica Geovid LRF binoculars so that you catch up on the basics about these products.
Since the latest models came out in 2018, they are some other models from 2015 and later still available on the market.
Many customers wonder about what’s the difference between Leica Geovid HD-R models of the previous launches compared to the new Geovid HD-R 2700 models.
The difference is in the range of detection. The first generation was released in 2015. Three models were available – 8×42 (Type 402), 10×42 (Type 403) and 8×56 (Type 500). The new models are not divided into “types” but are marked with the number ‘2700’ instead (8×42, 10×42, 8×56) and can measure up to 2700 yards (2500 metres).
That’s the only noticeable difference. Everything else is pretty much the same. The exterior and optical properties are nearly identical. In fact, when placing the two models next to each other, it is difficult to set them apart.
Indeed, the only additional thing you’re buying is the extended range of detection. Most users do not actually need an additional 500 metres.
