Detachable vs. Repeatable Mounts | Optics Trade Debates

Welcome to Optics Trade debates. In each episode, we talk about a different topic and try to answer the most common questions we receive about it. Today, we are going to talk about the differences between detachable and repeatable mounts.

Detachable mounts are all mounts that can be detached from the rifle without the use of tools. On the other hand, fixed mounts require tools to mount or remove them. Detachable mounts usually have special levers, buttons, etc. which enable attaching and detaching.

Repeatable mounts are a subcategory of detachable mounts. They have a clamping mechanism which is sophisticated enough that the mount always gets mounted in the same position. With repeatable mounts, no zeroing is needed when the scope is remounted.

All pivot mounts are repeatable and hold zero no matter how many times they are reattached.

The main difference is the price. In the range of 100 € to 150 €, most detachable mounts are going to be only detachable. Most mounts that are priced higher than 200€ are repeatable.

Repeatable mounts are a must have for people that have multiple optics solutions for a single rifle.
