Clip-on Adapters for Pulsar Core | Optics Trade Debates

Welcome to Optics Trade debates. In each episode, we talk about a different topic and try to answer the most common questions we receive about it. Today we are going to talk about clip-on adapters for the Pulsar Core.

In some countries in the EU, it is a common practice to use thermal and night vision attachments (where it’s legal) which are used to convert daytime optics into a night time or even a thermal sighting device.

We get a lot of questions regarding the different ways of mounting for the Pulsar Core. We offer three possible solutions.

The original Pulsar adapter which is produced in three different dimensions (42mm, 50mm, and 56mm). They come with a wide array of different inserts. When you put it on a scope you need to remove the flip-up cover before you can mount the Core.

It’s the most popular solution mostly because it’s very affordable.

But there are some drawbacks. For instance, its quite thick, and that means you need additional space between the scope and the barrel. And if you remove the adapter, you run the risk of losing the plastic insert, which is very common. That’s why Pulsar recommends that you don’t remove the adapter after the initial installation.

If you have a more uncommonly sized outside diameter of the objective lens that won’t work with a Pulsars adapter you’ll have to buy a Rusan adapter.

Rusan produces adapters dimensioned from 30mm all the way up to 80mm. The adapter from Rusan has a thread and a middle insert part that works as the reduction ring with which you can mount the Core on almost any riflescope you can imagine.

If you want a more elegant solution you should get a Smartclip adapter which is in one piece. They’re only made in 56mm and 62mm(outside diameter).

These adapters work only with Pulsar Core devices and can’t be used with the Pulsar F155 and F135. The devices are very similar but the F155 and F135 have four clips while the Pulsar Core has only two. So if you are using the F135 or the F155 you’re going to need a different kind of an adapter. You could use the two pin adapter on the F135 but it won’t be as fixed as with a four pin one.

So if you want an affordable adapter you should get the one from Pulsar. Its downsides are that it’s big and that you need to keep the adapter on the scope if you don’t want to lose the plastic insert.

If you remove the adapter from the scope quite often you should go for the Rusan or the Smartclip adapter. They both work in a similar way, the Smartclip is a one-piece adapter and the ones from Rusan are made from two pieces. These two adapters are also aesthetically more appealing in comparison with the one from Pulsar.

These adapters shouldn’t have a problem with recoil from bigger caliber guns if mounted correctly.

To mount a Pulsar Core the smallest needed distance between the objective bell and the barrel is around 8mm if you are using the original adapter, and for the aftermarket solutions, it’s about 3-4mm. So if your current mount doesn’t fulfill these requirements you will need to change the mounting solution.
