Aimpoint Micro H-2 vs. 9000 (Red Dot Models) | Optics Trade Debates

Welcome to Optics Trade debates. In each episode, we talk about a different topic and try to answer the most common questions we receive about it. Today we are going to talk about the differences between the Aimpoint Micro H-2 and the Aimpoint 9000.

H-2 is the newest generation red dot in its form factor from Aimpoint and the 9000 is an older generation of full-sized tube red dots.

The 9000 series incorporates two different versions, the 9000SC and the 9000L. The short and the long versions are completely the same in terms of optics, but the longer version can be mounted on longer actions. The 9000 is almost as big as some small riflescopes. It’s mounted with 30mm rings, which can be mounted on almost any rifle.

Micro H-2 can be mounted on the standard Micro mount. The Micro mounting solution isn’t as widely available as the 30mm mounting rings.
The H-2 is smaller, lighter and more elegant of the two. The H-2 uses a CR2032 battery, while the 9000 uses a 2L76 or DL1/3N battery.
Micro H-2 has a shrouded turret, so it’s really hard to damage it, while the turrets on the 9000 are in the open and unprotected. The 9000 models don’t have any markings on the button for regulating the intensity levels, while on the H-2 every level is clearly marked.

Aimpoint Micro H-2 comes with high quality flip up covers and the 9000 comes with bikini style scope covers. Most people prefer the flip up covers because it’s hard to lose them, even though they cover some of the field of view. The bikini style covers cover no field of view but are very frequently lost.

When the H-2 and the 9000 are compared, there is some bluish tint visible. But the level of tint on the 9000 is still superior to most other red dots on the market. The dot definition is better on the H-2 but it is very hard to see the difference.

The main advantage of the 9000 series is that it has a bigger window and a better eye box, which is good for rapid target acquisition.

The prices for the 9000 series are around 600-650 € and the Micro H-2 about 780 € with a mount.
